Day 20, 10 Sep 2012

Time went passed too fast for the last few days. Although i was lucky to have found 2 extremely useful article on the Tourism plan and foreign investment report, that greatly speed up my progress in my business plan, i had to admit that i was distracted by some new friends that i have made. It is always good to make new friends and they could be my future customers too.

Finally got on to do some serious work today by filling in the missing info gaps with charts and numbers. I have also receive a big boost in my team after i received Liens CV, it will definitely be one of the most impressive CVs that i will ever come across. That gesture from him also gave a boost to reassure his committment to the team, with him in the team, i believe my dreams will soar to greater heights.

I remain motivated and as i know time is running out i will be even more efficient and diligent in completing my tasks. 100 percent and then some. It is a good reminder to stay focus, discipline and not be distracted by the external influences in my current environment.

I shall further complete 10 pages of my portuguese grammar text book before i hit the deck tonight.

Blue Skies, Dream Big!

After some careful considerations i had selected Angra Dos Reis as the most preferred location to buy a property and operate the hostel based on terrain and cost analysis. It is ideal as it is within 2hrs from the Airport and 1 hour to the RDJ popular beach ipanema and Dropzone from Tijuca. More significantly, it boost a shipwreck diving site, has a prestine uncluttered beach, airfield for future dropzone developments, next to illha Grande island -suitable for survival training and jungle adventure races, and right at the hillside with the dense jungle to the north, ideal for rock climbing, cliffdiving and adventure racing. Hope i can get a good bargain when i head down this december.

DAY 12 - 2 Sep 2012

It has been a long week. My week has never been short as i always try my best to make the best of my time. For my work, i am glad to have completed 11 jumps with the highest altitude at 17,000ft agl,my 1st night jump was postponed due to bad weather. Tomorrow jump training starts again.

As for my big dreams, i would give myself a score of 6/10, i manage to do up 3.5 chapters out of 10 chapters of the business plan in the past 2 days.

My business plan chapters includes;

1. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

2. DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES

3. THE MARKET

4. THE COMPETITORS

5. REACHING THE MARKET

6. DEVELOPMENT AND OPERATIONS

7. MANAGEMENT

8. FINANCE

9. RISKS, RETURNS & EXIT

10. APPENDICES
I am done up to Market, and that requires much thinking and determination to push through.
Most importantly i must remind myself to be concise, relevant and thorough enough not to skip any seemingly tricky issues that may be hard to resolve.
As for my language revision, i have completed lesson 1 revision, going through all the assignments and i thinking i am slowly getting it back.
What next?
It will be a long day at the dropzone tomorrow, i shall bring some books along and i will start to (1) read my Portuguese grammar textbook and try my very best to complete it in 2 weeks.
Since my last posting, i have yet to continue on Charisma, (2) i shall read 10 pages of it every night before i sleep. Lets test my discipline.
(3) I shall keep warm with all my biz planning by compiling all the pointers from various sources, such as notes and slides. Whenever possible to tackle one question a day of each sub chapters and search for data online whenever reading is not conducive in my room.
I am looking forward to the new month, i hope to get myself at least a 7.5 out of 10. Which means more working, and working at higher efficiency with undivided attention and less sleeping and other leisure activity. Which means at least 3 hours of work each day on top of my jump training.
Some pictures to share on high altitude skydiving.

Never lose sight and forget my aim to build an iconic youth hostel!

Day 5/6

What i have done in the  past few days?

Did 2 jumps today at Parkes airfield for the first time, it was nice and refreshing to jump from a foreign place.

Done with the Brazil info book, realised that it was the second time reading it, but its a good revision on brazil.

Started my revision last night with Brazilian portuguese but slept soon after starting, will read more later.

Did up the pointers for my paper for my office work and pretty happy with what i have wrote up, plenty of fresh ideas and connections flowed.

Finish reading up 100 pages from Charisma again, this time it gets deeper in my skin,
revised about connecting, having presence, standing out, and awareness.

Connect - Through questions like who, what where, when, how, whys and PPVs, Pain, Pleasure, Values. Reminded of the typical blunders.

Having presence, through the eyes, posture, thoughts, verbal techniques, tones and purposeful actions.

Standing out - by being sincere, different, speaking up.

Awareness through daily meditation to remove noises in the mind and gain situation awareness within and externally.

Time to pen down the business plan by rewriting the Exec summary, to focus on The people, the opportunity, the context and, the risk and rewards.

At the same time, still continue to seek people of common interests for business networks and will be looking up to lawrence koh on tips of getting capital funding.

Blue Skies & Sweet dreams!

Day 1

Just arrived here from singapore last night after a 7 hr flight and 7 hr coach ride. I did some reading and revised some Brazilian Portuguese on the way. Today we head out for some area orientation and lunch at a local Thai restaurant and the tom yam noodles that I had wasn't too bad at all. Took a walk back to the hotel and I finished up reading a book, it was a great book, very useful to me so far and I'm gg to read it again just to remember all the good stuff that I can use for my start up.

Consolidation

I in Sydney now. I have always love to travel because it always make me feel fresh and gives me the space and time to reflect and explore myself, my life. It is possible mainly because I am free up of anew things like my mobile contact, phone stops ringing, messages stop popping from what's app, Facebook and SMS.

The past few months have been crazy, I had so much to fulfill in my office for my guys, apart from my day work, it's busy building my dreams in brazil, meeting up with people and building relationships with prospectives, then the remaining time is for connecting with my family, friends and colleagues, I hardly have any time for myself. To my surprise I'm actually loving it, I'm feeling motivated and purposeful. It has been fulfilling, some ups and downs but mostly ups. :)

This blog is meant to record my journey to realize my dreams, something where I can reflect and read when the dust has settled and I have something to check back on when I have built what I set out to do. This will let me cross check on how much have changed from where I started out to be.

Thinking back, my first steps had started 8 months ago when I took up Brazilian Portuguese. I completed 9 weeks of lessons and recently I made further progress when I met up with lien in July, then I start to make concrete plans and start to bring in the team together.

Lien have been instrumental in helping me set the course straight, business notes, sample plans and extremely useful advice from his wealth of experience and his MBA from LSE.

What I have in the plan so far?
1. I have done up 2 business plan slides, one military style and another more complete and concise.
Both would give a good overview of my plan.
2. I have worked out the possible market segments and the customers but all are options now not conclusive yet.
3. I have zoomed in my hostel location to RDJ and also five areas there to study.
4. I made some connections, with lien, dzarrin, chin tah and Darius from brazil and Charles later on the 23rd sep.
5. I have worked out the possible risks and potential F-ups.
6. I drafted the outline for the business plan paper.

Next up would be to read up and understand brazil further from my reading materials and completing the business plan before I return in sep.
Time to burn oil!
